ENA Type Test Register: How to Check If Your Plug-In Solar Kit Is Compliant

What is the ENA Type Test Register?

The ENA (Energy Networks Association) Type Test Register is the official UK database of inverters and generators that have been tested against the technical standards for connecting to the electricity grid. It is hosted on the ENA Connect Direct platform, which is the same system your DNO (electricity network operator) uses to verify that a device is safe to connect.

In plain English: before an inverter is allowed to feed electricity into the UK grid, the manufacturer has to submit it for type testing. An entry on this register carries a system reference number (like ANKER/20920/V1), a published date, and a compliance status — and a device only reads Compliant once it has passed the assessment. Your network operator checks this register when you send your G98 notification.

Why it matters for plug-in solar

From 27 August 2026, when the legal route for IPS-compliant plug-in solar devices opened in Great Britain under SI 2026/848, only devices that meet the Interim Product Specification (IPS) and are registered on ENA Connect Direct should be used under the legal route. This means:

• If your inverter is on the register and marked Compliant, it has passed the register's assessment and is shown as suitable for grid connection under G98. Your DNO still reviews the notification itself — a Compliant listing is not a pre-approved installation.
• If your inverter is on the register but marked Non-compliant, it has been submitted but has not passed (or has not maintained) the full assessment. Do not rely on it for the legal route.
• If your inverter is not on the register at all, it has no current listing — it may never have been submitted, or its entry may have been withdrawn. Either way, it is not approved for the plug-in solar route, regardless of what the manufacturer’s marketing says.
• The route covers solar-only devices. Plug-in batteries and plug-in solar devices integrated with batteries are outside the first IPS route — even where a related register entry exists (Anker's storage listings are the standing example).

This matters because your DNO may reject your G98 notification if your inverter is not on the register, and connecting a non-compliant device could breach the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.

How to search the register

Devices currently listed

As of 10 September 2026, 49 devices are listed under the “Plug-in Solar” category on ENA Connect Direct. 48 are marked Compliant across thirteen manufacturers: twelve Perlight PowerPlug models, eight City Plumbing kits, seven UKSOL Plug-In Solar Pro kits, six Patiosun kits, two Thunder Energy Thunder Bolt kits, two Modular Solar units, two InstaGroup panels, two HDM Solar kits, two ALTENERGY kits, two Skyworth kits, Powerxpress's 920W kit, The Impact Crowd V1 and Octopus Energy's M1-800-E (compliant since its third resubmission, published 8 September). The remaining 1 is Non-compliant. Most entries are rated at 0.8 kW — the legal maximum output for a plug-in microgenerator — though a couple of smaller Modular Solar units sit below it, Perlight's four SPE variants register at 0.5 kW panel capacity, and ALTENERGY's Dual kit is listed at 0.799 kW.

The breakdown: Perlight has 12 compliant entries, City Plumbing 8, UKSOL 7, Patiosun 6, Thunder Energy 2, Modular Solar 2, InstaGroup 2, HDM Solar 2, ALTENERGY 2, Skyworth 2, Powerxpress 1, The Impact Crowd 1 and Octopus Energy 1. Only one entry is marked Non-compliant: InstaGroup's INS-PPG2-800. The register moves fast — it went from 43 devices to 52 on 5 September, then to 53 on 8 September, then fell to 51 and 49 on 9-10 September while the compliant count moved 47→48. It has gone from 11 devices to 49 in under seven weeks. Entries leave without warning too: Anker's amended plug-in entry (ANKER/20920/V1/A2) left the register on 4 September, EcoFlow's EF-PS-800 and Octopus's /A4 left on 9 September, Hoymiles' two bare-inverter filings and TSUNESS's kit left on 10 September (all four still exist on the wider register as ordinary or storage devices), Plugsol's two entries are gone, and SEGEN/21070 was confirmed withdrawn. The table below reflects what the register showed at the time of writing — always verify on the live register before buying.

Entries can be added or removed at any time — GoodWe, InstaGroup's earlier microinverter, FoxESS's entries, Modular Solar's units (which have since returned as Compliant), and Anker's amended plug-in entry were all removed within days or weeks of publication. The Anker Solarbank 4 Pro

The Anker Solarbank 4 Pro (model AE1032Z1-20, registered as ANKER/20920/V1) was the first widely reported consumer-storage device to appear under the new Plug-in Solar category, published on 3 August 2026 after the first GoodWe listings on 29 July. It was initially marked “Compliant” but its status flipped to “Non-compliant” the following day, 4 August 2026.

The Solarbank 4 Pro is a storage-and-inverter combination device, not a plain microinverter. Anker produces a dedicated 800W-capped SKU (the AE1032Z1) for the plug-in solar compliance route, separate from the higher-powered AE1033Z1 model which requires a Wieland connector fitted by an electrician. The 0.8 kW rating on the register matches the 800 VA legal maximum for a plug-in microgenerator under SI 2026/848.

Anker kept filing. By 31 August its register entry had been amended to a different product — the Solix E5000 Pro (AE1033Z1-20) paired with an RS50S 500W panel, under the amended reference ANKER/20920/V1/A2. It remained marked Non-compliant, and it is a battery-integrated system, so it sits outside the first IPS route anyway. On 4 September that entry left the register entirely. Anker still holds around forty entries on the wider ENA register — every one of them Compliant, but under the Energy Storage Device category, not Plug-in Solar. A compliant battery is not a compliant plug-in solar kit: nothing sold as an Anker plug-in solar system can currently be connected under the GB plug-in route.

Compliance status is fluid

The ENA Connect Direct register is a live database, and it changes in more ways than one. Compliance status can flip. New entries appear as manufacturers submit them. And entries can vanish entirely — the two GoodWe inverters, the InstaGroup HF-800-WB microinverter, FoxESS's devices, and Anker's amended plug-in entry are all gone from the register as of 10 September, along with EcoFlow's EF-PS-800, Octopus's /A4, Hoymiles' two bare-inverter filings and TSUNESS's kit, which left on 9-10 September. Modular Solar's units left and later returned as Compliant. In the four days to 26 August it went from 11 devices to 25 and back to 23; by 28 August it stood at 20, it peaked at 31 on 31 August, it read 27 on 2 September, 43 on 4 September, 52 on 5 September, and 53 on 8 September, then fell to 51 and 49 on 9-10 September — with the compliant count moving from 30 to 41 to 47 across the 5-8 September window, then to 48 on 10 September. They were not all marked Non-compliant first. Some were simply removed.

• Search by the exact model number from the product specification, not the marketing name.
