Plug-In Solar Kit Readiness: Can It Be G98-Notified?
Last checked:10 September 2026. The Great Britain plug-in solar route opened on 27 August 2026, and SI 2026/848 is in force. This page doesn't rank “best” kits. It checks whether a product has the evidence you need before buying — and before attempting a G98 notification.

Brands to watch
Several manufacturers have announced products that could matter for the UK plug-in solar market. None of these three have IPS v2 certification. Current compliant makers include UKSOL, Perlight, Thunder Energy, Patiosun, Modular Solar, InstaGroup, City Plumbing, HDM Solar and ALTENERGY, listed in the table above where relevant. Treat every claim here as a press release until you see product evidence on the ENA register.

A microinverter on its own isn't a plug-in solar kit. The IPS route covers a factory-assembled device with a manufacturer-fitted BS 1363 plug — not a box of parts you wire up yourself.
Where to buy
Nineteen compliant devices had UK sellers in the latest stock check — but that's 19 out of 48 compliant devices. Here's where each brand actually sells:

Don't assume a product on a retailer's shelf is IPS-compliant just because the retailer is big. Check the ENA register first, then check the specific product model. On the register's plug-in solar search, match the manufacturer name and the exact model number from the product's specification sheet — not the marketing name on the listing, and not a “close enough” version with a different suffix. If the seller's product name doesn't match anything on the register, ask the seller for the register reference before you pay; a kit that can't be matched isn't one you can notify.
What “Non-compliant” actually means: the manufacturer filed the entry and it has not been shown to meet the requirements on the date checked — failed evidence, an assessment still open, or an entry that has since been amended or withdrawn. It does not necessarily mean the product is dangerous, and it isn't permanent: entries have come back as Compliant after a resubmission. What it does mean today: there is no lawful connection route for that device under this route, so don't buy it expecting to notify it. Statuses change — always check the live register on the day.
Before you install, a few limits decide whether your setup qualifies: one plug-in device per household, no extension leads or multi-way adaptors, a socket on a suitable circuit, and landlord or freeholder permission if you don't own the property. What evidence to look for
- Manufacturer name, product model, and inverter model — all stated clearly.
- IPS wording that specifically references the Great Britain plug-in solar route.
- Output stated in VA or current, not just “800W solar panel” marketing copy.
- Evidence the product isn't a battery-integrated device under the first route.
- ENA Connect Direct registration, where the manufacturer is supposed to have one.
- A way to complete the G98 notification after installation. That now means registering at myplugin.solar; the portal walkthrough shows each screen.
