Which kits can I legally plug in?

Check IPS compliance status before you buy. Plug-in solar is legal in Great Britain from 27 August 2026 for compliant devices. Register checked 13 September 2026; retail availability checked 14 September 2026. Property permissions and installation suitability are separate checks — see the notes under each status below.

Register status.Our register read on 13 September 2026 found 49 plug-in solar devices listed, of which 48 were Compliant across thirteen manufacturers (unchanged from the 10 September read). Seven makers now sell register-listed kits direct or through stockists: UKSOL, Thunder Energy, Patiosun, Modular Solar and Perlight, plus City Plumbing's three own-brand kits on sale since 9 September (Jinko 940W £432, DMEGC 930W £444, DMEGC 1030W £468 — the first compliant 800W-output kits under £500) and the PowerXpress 920W panel kit at Screwfix (£669, 800W microinverter output, in stock as checked 14 September). InstaGroup, HDM Solar, ALTENERGY, Skyworth, Impact Crowd and Octopus Energy still have no confirmed UK stockist. Octopus Energy's M1-800-E was shown compliant in the 10 September check (the row published 8 September) but has not been found on sale in the UK. At our 13 September read, the only Non-compliant plug-in solar entry was one InstaGroup kit (INS-PPG2-800); EcoFlow's EF-PS-800 plug-in filing, Octopus's earlier filings, Hoymiles' two bare inverters and TSUNESS's kit all left the register on 9-10 September, having been Non-compliant throughout. EcoFlow's separate EF-PS-800 microinverter listing under the Inverter category (ECOFL/17537/V1/A1) now reads Compliant — that is a component entry, not a certified plug-in kit. Anker has no plug-in solar register entry as checked on 13 September, after leaving on 4 September. We verify periodically but can't guarantee real-time accuracy. Solar Energy UK confirmed UKSOL as the first solar company to reach compliance. Ground and hybrid mount kits with one or two panels, assembled in Sheffield. The UKSOL store (uksol.uk) lists four kits, all ground-mount: the 460W Compact at £599 click-and-collect or £699 delivered, and the 890W Duo at £899 click-and-collect or £999 delivered (store read 14 September 2026; prices were cut on 8 September). The same two ground-mount kits are also stocked by City Plumbing (£670.80 and £951.60 incl. VAT) and Argos lists six UKSOL kits including the hybrid-mount range from £599. As checked on 14 September, one UKSOL model — the Pro Advanced 920W hybrid — was listed on no UK shelf we check, including UKSOL's own store; the other six had at least one seller. Thunder sells both compliant Bolt kits direct: £549.99 for the 460W and £749.99 for the 920W. Plug In Solar now undercuts Thunder direct on the Bolt 460W at £459.98 for the ground/wall kit; the Bolt 920W is £749.99 from both sellers. Each Thunder product page quotes its own ENA register reference, which makes the model match easy to verify.

EcoFlow's bare EF-PS-800 microinverter holds a Compliant component listing under Category Inverter, Type PV (ECOFL/17537/V1/A1, PublishedDate 7 May 2025 per the Connect Direct register API) — but that is a component listing, not a certified plug-in kit, and the battery-inclusive STREAM range still has no Compliant plug-in solar entry as of 16 September 2026.
EcoFlow is one of the manufacturers working with government on the UK rollout. You can buy STREAM products through EcoFlow UK and Amazon UK today, but retailer availability doesn't mean IPS approval. The register entry confirms they're trying — it also confirms they haven't cleared the bar yet.

Octopus Energy is a new name in the plug-in solar register. The M1-800-E was shown compliant in the 10 September check on its third resubmission, but it has not been found on sale in the UK in any tracker read yet — there is no product you can buy for the GB plug-in route at the time of this check. Verify on the live register before relying on this.

Anker was briefly first on the ENA register (ANKER/20920/V1, published 3 August 2026) but its status flipped to Non-compliant on 4 August 2026. The amended entry (ANKER/20920/V1/A2, the Solix E5000 Pro + RS50S panel kit) left the register entirely on 4 September 2026. Anker holds ~40 Compliant entries on the wider ENA register under the Energy Storage Device category — none under Plug-in Solar. No Anker product holds Compliant plug-in solar status as of 10 September 2026.
Anker's own material confirms the 800W grid-tied output. Its plug-in register entry is now gone, and its forty compliant ENA entries are all Energy Storage Devices — a compliant battery is not a compliant plug-in solar kit. Plug In Solar sells the four PowerPlug MAX models (prices read 8 September 2026): MAX 465 £588, MAX 500 £594, MAX 930 £798 and MAX 1000 £810, all with a 4-week lead time. Perlight's FLEX+ models and SPE-coded variants remain register-listed but unsold to UK consumers in this check. Note that panel wattage in a product name is not the same as permitted output.

The PowerXpress 920W kit (register entry 90012, published 3 September) is on sale at Screwfix as checked on 14 September 2026.
A decent microinverter component at roughly £120 — but an inverter alone isn't a certified IPS kit.

What the statuses mean

Verified — Product is listed as Compliant on the ENA register. Verify the exact model, then buy and notify within 28 days of connecting. Compliance is necessary but not the whole picture: check property permissions (landlord or freeholder consent, planning, listed building) and whether your socket and wiring suit the kit before you connect. You notify through the official myplugin.solar portal — our step-by-step portal walkthrough shows what each screen asks for.
Watch — Manufacturer claims compliance but ENA registration not yet confirmed. Check before buying.
Not ready — Product's register entry is currently Non-compliant, or it falls outside the first IPS route (e.g. includes a battery). Don't use the plug-in route for it.
Unknown — Not enough information to assess. Check the ENA register yourself.
Component only — This is a component (e.g. microinverter), not a complete certified kit. You still need panels and IPS certification for the full system.

Register entries can change as manufacturers resubmit evidence. A Non-compliant status doesn't necessarily mean a product is badly made — it means that on the date checked, it is not shown as legal to connect under this route. Always verify on the live ENA register before buying.
